Job Description

This position is a part-time limited position with the possibility of extension/career conversion.

This position will be hired at the HEALTH EDUCATOR 2 or HEALTH EDUCATOR 3 level depending on the education and experience of the selected candidate.

The Psychedelics and Health Research Initiative (PHRI) is seeking skilled Health Educators for a clinical trial being conducted with psilocybin in amputees suffering from phantom limb pain within the Department of Psychiatry. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Study Physicians, and Study Coordinators, the incumbent will assist with interviewing and debriefing study participants and analyzing the effectiveness of the study procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with collecting data that will support publications, preparing and maintain reports and evaluations from data collection and providing preparatory materials to study participants and discussing the provided information. Help the study team to evaluate the effectiveness of preparatory materials provided to study participants, and if appropriate, suggest potential edits or other ways to improve the materials. Interview and debrief study participants about the effectiveness of the study procedures. The incumbent will also learn to closely supervise participants during study visits, including sessions where participants receive psilocybin. Assist with other project and miscellaneous duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training in a mental health environment (e.g., psychiatric care, counseling, clinical studies of psychoactive medications).

  • Working knowledge of the health promotion and education field.

  • Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.

  • Working knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.

  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.

  • Ability to acquire the requisite skills to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated experience working with the study team to evaluate the effectiveness of preparatory materials provided to study participants, and if appropriate, suggest potential edits or other ways to improve the materials.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting clinical interviews.

  • High level of comfort working with amputees.

  • High level of comfort interacting with human subjects who have received psilocybin.

  • Knowledge on the effects of psilocybin.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing reports and maintenance of human subject records.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and problem solve and ask for guidance if needed.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, tactfully, and patiently in person, on the phone, and in writing.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, analysis, and decision making skills. Ability to efficiently organize, prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated experience with operation of PCs using word processing and e-mail systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in being flexible and managing multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Experience performing interviews and administering questionnaires that will be included in publications.

  • Previous experience with human clinical research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • For the HEALTH EDUCATOR 2 level: Bachelor's degree and at least 12 months of experience working in a mental health environment.

  • For the HEALTH EDUCATOR 3 level: Doctoral degree and Licensed clinician.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be able to work variable hours such as evenings and weekends as needed.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
