Job Description
FINANCIAL ASSISTANT 2, Materials Science and Engineering, to perform financial activities including processing, reviewing, approving, and tracking financial transactions for faculty and their labs; conduct regular review of account activity for compliance with MIT and sponsor policy, budget v. actuals, positive balances and expiring accounts; process account closeouts including compliance audits; conduct regular review of transactions in accordance with the financial review and control process; serve as a resource for faculty, postdocs, and students on financial transactions; create and maintain documentation for DMSE-specific and MIT-wide financial policies, procedures, and best practices; may provide backup support to financial staff during absences; and perform other administrative, financial, and clerical duties as necessary.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; at minimum of three years of financial or accounting experience; excellent communication, organizational, accounting, and analytical skills; ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; attention to detail and follow through; and sound judgment and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree; experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MIT accounting and purchasing systems; and proficiency with MIT’s financial software (e.g. SAP and Cognos). Job #24581-5
